About
The Physical Oceanography Group of the University of Malaga (GOFIMA) have more than 25 years of trajectory, mainly focused on the oceanographic characterization of the southern region of the Iberian Peninsula. They have proven experience both in experimental oceanography and in the development, implementation and analysis of numerical models, from basin-scale and coastal small-scale processes.
In recent years some of its members have developed a line of research on marine debris pollution. They have worked mainly on the characterization of marine debris transport in the Mediterranean basin, through the development of numerical tools. In the frame of a regional funded research project awarded in 2023 (OBAMARAN), they have also worked on the cataloguing of observations and analysis of their intercomparability, the generation of management tools combining observations and simulations, and the analysis and optimization of sampling strategies (see the attached file for details).
We are interested in leading a WP as partners focusing on marine litter transport modeling, risk and ecosystem impact analysis and optimization of sampling strategies.
