NEST — Pre-Consequence Control for Industrial Solar-Thermal Systems [CRES/SAMMLER]

About

NEST is a deterministic pre-consequence control architecture developed by Bounded System Technology Ltd.

For the CRES/SAMMLER challenge, NEST can complement the existing PLC, IoT, optimisation and lightweight-AI control stack by evaluating whether each proposed action remains admissible in the complete current system state before physical execution.

Relevant state can include solar input, collector temperatures, flow and pressure, thermal-storage condition, industrial heat demand, sensor quality and freshness, connectivity state, actuator constraints and system history.

NEST then applies the minimum justified intervention:
PRESERVE valid control, HOLD when evidence is insufficient, REPAIR or REROUTE recoverable actions, or ISOLATE / DENY inadmissible consequences.

This is particularly applicable to the SAMMLER conditions of fluctuating solar generation, changing industrial demand, degraded sensors, stale or conflicting information and limited connectivity.

NEST does not replace the solar-thermal controller or become the forecasting/optimisation model. The proposed integration is a lightweight adapter around the existing control path, allowing deployment to begin entirely in shadow mode.

We propose a CRES-controlled baseline-versus-NEST validation using independently defined operating and disturbance scenarios. Measures would include valid-operation preservation, inadmissible-action prevention, false interventions, HOLD correctness, repair/reroute performance, latency and deterministic replay.

Existing NEST evidence is controlled and internal/local rather than prior solar-thermal validation. The purpose of this collaboration is therefore precisely to expose the same underlying architecture to independent physical-system testing under CRES-defined conditions.
