Integrating Agri-PV Systems in Weak Rural Grids [CRES/BRITE]

About

NEST is a deterministic pre-consequence control architecture developed by Bounded System Technology Ltd.

For weak rural grids integrating Agri-PV, storage and flexible loads, the challenge is not only whether individual devices or control commands are valid, but whether their combined consequence remains admissible in the complete current system state.

NEST sits between the existing optimisation/control layer and physical execution. It evaluates source integrity, timing, state history, dependencies, uncertainty and relevant electrical/operational constraints before a proposed action proceeds.

It then applies the minimum justified intervention:
PRESERVE valid operation, HOLD when evidence is insufficient, REPAIR or REROUTE recoverable actions, or ISOLATE / DENY inadmissible consequences.

For the CRES/BRITE challenge, NEST can be integrated through a lightweight grid/DER adapter covering:

  • PV generation and curtailment

  • battery charge/discharge

  • grid import/export

  • flexible agricultural demand

  • electricity/heat/water coupling

  • weak-grid operating limits

  • conflicting, stale or incomplete measurements

The proposed validation is a controlled baseline vs NEST comparison using scenarios defined with CRES. Measurable outputs include valid-operation preservation, inadmissible-action prevention, false interventions, HOLD/repair/reroute behaviour, latency and deterministic replay.

NEST is already implemented and experimentally tested across multiple digital and physical domains. This opportunity would test the same underlying invariant in a real energy-system context rather than creating a new domain-specific controller.
