Bac3Gel develops advanced biomaterials that reproduce the human mucus layer.
Most in vitro models rely on cell lines such as Caco-2, or on fermentation systems. These models omit the mucus layer. In the human body, that layer is where microbiota attach, grow and interact with the host. When a model omits it, the result changes.
Bac3Gel builds that layer. Our patented hydrogels reproduce the structural and chemical properties of human mucus, so bacteria grow under conditions close to those found in the body.
We supply ready to use 3D mucosa models of the gut (Gut3Gel), the airways (Lung3Gel) and the cervicovaginal tract (Vag3Gel), the base hydrogel for custom assays, and mucoadhesive beads that hold probiotics and active ingredients at the mucosal surface. Our products are research tools, used by pharmaceutical, CRO, food and academic laboratories in Europe, North America and Asia, and distributed in Japan by Funakoshi.
