Deep Sky One (Alberta)

VP Carbon Markets & Corporate Development at Deep Sky

Canada

About

_Deep Sky develops, owns, and operates commercial-scale facilities that remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere and store it permanently underground, producing carbon credits which are in high demand on the voluntary and international compliance markets. The approach works like a water treatment plant, but for air. Large fans and specialized filters pull carbon dioxide from ambient air. The captured carbon is compressed and injected into secure rock formations in Alberta’s basal cambrian more than 2km below the surface, where it is held and eventually turns to stone, so it cannot return to the atmosphere.

_

_Deep Sky’s project pipeline today includes Deep Sky Alpha, the world’s first technology-agnostic carbon removal commercialization hub, built and commissioned in Innisfail, Alberta in about 12 months. Deep Sky One in Alberta is the next commercial-scale build in that pipeline, accompanied by other projects in Quebec and Manitoba. It applies the proven Deep Sky model: a modular hub that installs validated capture units from leading global manufacturers into shared infrastructure and storage, rather than relying on a single proprietary machine. This lets Deep Sky adopt better, more efficient units as the technology improves, without rebuilding the facility.

_

The project will build out in phases: Phase 1 at 30,000 tonnes of CO2 removed per year (15 MW), Phase 2 at 100,000 tonnes per year (35 MW), and Phase 3 at 500,000 tonnes per year (160 MW). Capture and permanent storage are co-located, with subsurface storage rights being secured. Deep Sky will develop the project closely with community and indigenous people and will explore equity-based partnerships, and is currently evaluating low-carbon power options to supply the site.
