Yaetso Energy Waterberg-Lephalale Integrated CTL, Green Hydrogen, Energy and Chemicals Industrial Complex

Managing Director at Yaetso Energy (Pty) LTD

South Africa

About

The Yaetso Energy Waterberg-Lephalale Integrated CTL, Green Hydrogen, Energy and Chemicals Industrial Complex is a proposed large-scale industrial development in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, South Africa. It is designed to convert locally available coal and other strategic inputs into higher-value fuels, energy products, chemicals and fertilisers, while progressively integrating renewable energy and lower-carbon technologies.

The proposed complex will combine coal gasification, synthesis-gas processing and coal-to-liquids production with green hydrogen, power generation and downstream manufacturing. Subject to feasibility studies, market demand and technology selection, its products may include synthetic transport fuels, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, fertilisers and selected industrial chemicals.

Carbon dioxide management is integral to the project design and will follow a clear hierarchy. First, captured carbon dioxide will be directed to productive use wherever technically and commercially viable, including as an input into downstream industrial and chemical processes. Second, carbon dioxide that cannot be productively used will be considered for mineralisation into stable solid products. Third, only residual carbon dioxide remaining after use and mineralisation will be considered for appropriate geological storage, subject to technical feasibility, environmental authorisation and site suitability.

The project seeks to strengthen South Africa's energy security, reduce dependence on imported fuels and chemicals, promote domestic beneficiation and establish new industrial value chains. It could support construction and permanent employment, local procurement, skills development, infrastructure investment and regional economic growth.

Yaetso Energy intends to develop the complex in bankable phases supported by suitable land, feedstock, water, power, logistics, technologies and financing. Delivery will require structured partnerships with government, development finance institutions, investors, technology providers, resource owners and local communities.
