My organisation

LuMIC Development Corporation (LuMIC DevCo) is a joint venture special purpose vehicle (SPV) established in December 2023 by Port of AntwerpBruges International (PoABI) and Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk). The company was created to spearhead the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) project, a transformative project designed to position Lumut as a world-class maritime, logistics, and industrial hub. To ensure project progress, LuMIC DevCo works closely with stakeholders to finalise development agreements covering key aspects such as land use, infrastructure costs, and profit-sharing arrangements.

About me

Alex Staring, born on December 1, 1965, in Brussels, Belgium, is a highly accomplished maritime professional with over three decades of experience in the shipping and port industry. He holds a BA in Maritime Science from Instituut De Ruyter in the Netherlands and advanced certifications, including a Master and Chief Engineer Unlimited License and Dangerous Cargo Endorsements for gas, chemicals, and oil. Fluent in Dutch, French, and English, with working knowledge of German and Spanish, Alexander is a versatile and internationally adept leader. Throughout his career, Alex has demonstrated exceptional expertise in aritime operations, business development, and management. Currently as Chief Business Development Officer for Lumic Development Company, driving partnerships and investments in Lumut, Malaysia together with the State of Perak and the Port of AntwerpBruges. During his tenure at Euronav NV as COO, he led key strategic initiatives, including setting up the Offshore department, the acquisition of the Maersk VLCC fleet and the merger with Gener8, which established Euronav as the world's largest publicly traded independent tanker company on both NYSE and Euronext. His earlier roles include Director of Operations at Tankers International and leadership positions with Euronav (UK) Agencies and SGS NV. Alexander began his career at sea, advancing to the rank of Master on oil, gas, and chemical tankers. Alexander's outstanding contributions to the maritime sector included roles on the board of the West of England P&I Club, UK War Club and the Lloyd's Register Benelux executive committee. He is widely recognized for his operational, commercial, and technical acumen, as well as his ability to cultivate global partnerships and navigate complex industry challenges.
