Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC)
About
Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) is a landmark development in Perak, Malaysia, launched in December 2023 through a strategic partnership between the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) and Port of Antwerp-Bruges International (PoABI). Recognised by the European Union with a €1.9 million grant for feasibility studies, LuMIC is set to become one of Southeast Asia’s leading maritime and logistics hubs.
Strategically located near the Straits of Malacca, LuMIC is Malaysia’s Global Gateway Flagship Project, designed to drive sustainable growth in Perak and the northern region. Over the next 25–30 years, it is expected to attract substantial foreign and domestic investment, generate over 55,000 jobs, and accelerate industrial and social development.
Guided by the successful landlord port model of Antwerp-Bruges, LuMIC offers exceptional business opportunities specifically for integrated logistics solutions and green circular economy. The development spans 23,000 acres of river delta land, divided into seven zones (LuMIC 1–7). While some maritime service companies are already active in the region, the masterplan envisions new industries, advanced logistics facilities, and modern infrastructure.
LuMIC will feature a multipurpose terminal that supports container handling, cold storage, edible oils, fertilisers, and project cargo, complemented by an innovation hub, marine support services, and value-added industries. It will also include a dry bulk terminal for grain and animal feed, alongside a large shipyard for marine engineering, shipbuilding, and dismantling. With deepwater access, LuMIC offers strong potential for space-intensive industries and LNG facilities. In addition, dedicated natural compensation zones will safeguard the environment, reinforcing LuMIC’s vision as a balanced and sustainable development.
With its strategic location, advanced facilities, and strong government support, LuMIC is positioned to transform Perak into a premier hub for maritime trade, logistics, and sustainable industry in Southeast Asia.
