One health and emerging diseases
Dr. Ahmed Abd El Wahed studied veterinary medicine at Mansoura University, Egypt. He received his PhD in biology from Goettingen University, Germany in 2011. He is the head of the laboratory at the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Veterinary Public Health, Leipzig University, Germany and Guest Professor at Badr University in Cairo, Egypt. He is a member of the steering committee of the German Alliance for Global Health Research, head of research at the German Society for Tropical Medicine, Travel Medicine and Global Health (DTG, e.V.), the scientific committee of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), and one of founders of the Network for Young Researchers in Medical Infectious Diseases (Netzwerk JungeInfektionsmedizin). He is a member of the strategic and advisory committee of the WHO for Neglected tropical Diseases. He established a mobile suitcase laboratory for the rapid detection of viruses, bacteria, and parasites. His model has been deployed in several African and Asian countries.
