Mobile Diagnostics and Outbreak Response
About
The proposed "Mobile Diagnostics and Outbreak Response" training program leverages cutting-edge, field-proven technology and methodologies developed through years of research and deployment in outbreak situations. Core modules would include hands-on training with the Mobile Suitcase Lab, where participants will learn to use the portable laboratory system for rapid point-of-need detection of pathogens like Mpox, Ebola, Dengue, and Chikungunya. This is complemented by training in advanced molecular diagnostics, focusing on rapid assays such as isothermal amplification and the use of nanopore sequencing for real-time pathogen characterization directly in the field. A critical component is the One Health approach to surveillance, which is essential for pandemic preparedness and involves practical training in wastewater surveillance as an early warning system—including novel techniques for pathogen concentration and strategies for investigating zoonotic diseases like Avian Influenza, and Mpox. Participants will also learn the logistics of deploying a mobile lab, informed in the WHO Rapid Response Mobile Lab team, and delve into data analysis and the use of AI-driven tools for predictive modeling.
