NAPOLI WINEGROWING PROVINCE
The Province of Naples, with a vineyard area of 2,013 hectares, is a unique wine-growing territory that includes areas such as Mount Vesuvius, Capri, Ischia, Procida,Campi Flegrei and the Sorrento Peninsula, which expresses a wide oenological offer consisting of six DOP/DOC and five IGP wines. Wine production amounts to 165,551 hectolitres, equal to 11% of total regional output. Table wine production accounts for 131,799 hectolitres (80% of provincial production), while DOP wines total 29,716 hectolitres (18%) and IGP wines 4,036 hectolitres (2%).
Ischia and Capri boast historic and limited productions, while the Vesuvian area and Campi Flegrei stand out for their indigenous grape varieties and volcanic soils. The Sorrento Peninsula also includes wines traditionally linked to local cuisine, such as Gragnano. The main IGP designations are Epomeo, Pompeiano and Catalanesca del Monte Somma.
Three protection consortia operate in the area: Vesuvio, Campi Flegrei–Ischia and Penisola Sorrentina.
The DOC Denominations in the Province of Naples:

Vesuvio DOC: Includes the renowned Lacryma Christi, produced as White, Red and Rosé. The main grape varieties are Caprettone and Falanghina for whites, Piedirosso and Aglianico for reds.

Campi Flegrei DOC: Known for vineyards grown on ungrafted vines in volcanic soils. It is distinguished by Falanghina (white) and Piedirosso (red), locally known as Pér ’e Palummo;

Ischia DOC: The first DOC recognized in Campania. It includes styles such as Ischia Bianco (from Forastera and Biancolella grapes) and Ischia Rosso (from Guarnaccia and Piedirosso).

Capri DOC: Limited to the island of Capri, producing white wines (Greco and Biancolella) and red wines (Piedirosso).

Penisola Sorrentina DOC: Includes the well-known subzones Gragnano, Lettere and Sorrento, and is particularly famous for the lightly sparkling red Gragnano.

Aversa DOC: Although it also extends into the province of Caserta, it includes municipalities in the Naples area. It is dedicated exclusively to the Asprinio grape, often trained using the ancient “alberata” system.
IGP Denominations in the Province of Naples:
The five IGP denominations found in the Province of Naples are: Catalanesca del Monte Somma IGP (covering nine municipalities on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius), Epomeo IGP (linked to the island of Ischia and named after Mount Epomeo), Pompeiano IGP (covering the Vesuvian area and municipalities around Pompeii), Terre del Volturno IGP (shared with the province of Caserta), and the regional Campania IGP.
