About
Wind turbine noise does not always come from a single or obvious source. Blade aerodynamics, individual blades, blade add-ons and mechanical systems can all contribute. Understanding the complete acoustic picture therefore requires more than one measurement method.
MuTech Acoustic Insights combines complementary techniques:

IEC 61400-11-compliant measurements establish overall turbine noise performance, tonal characteristics and performance against defined targets.

Our Single Blade Method analyses each blade pass separately. This allows individual blades and blade treatments to be compared under similar conditions, helping identify anomalous blade performance and evaluate different noise-reduction solutions.

Our custom 64-microphone acoustic array creates detailed visual maps showing where noise comes from. It can separate noise from rotating blades and stationary components, identify dominant mechanical or aerodynamic sources, and assess add-ons such as trailing-edge treatments, vortex generators and spoilers.
These methods can be used separately or simultaneously, depending on the question being investigated. Together, they provide a detailed acoustic profile of the turbine and reveal issues that overall noise measurements alone may not detect.
We translate these insights into practical recommendations: identifying which sources to address, assessing possible interventions and verifying whether changes have worked. This supports noise troubleshooting, turbine development, comparison of different configurations and improvements in both acoustic and energy performance.
