Over 3,400 professionals work at TNO and the organisation is headquartered in the Hague, the Netherlands.
Unit Mobility and Build environment:
Both Europe and The Netherlands provide a pleasant place to live and work, with high standards for transport, infrastructure, and housing. However, a combination of housing, climate, and accessibility challenges is putting increasing pressure on the liveability of our society. We strive to achieve the optimum balance between efficiency, sustainability, and safety. Therefore, as TNO Mobility & Built Environment, we work on solutions for more efficient transport, sustainable living, and future-proof infrastructure, among other things.
Ir. Ernst Jan van Ark received the M.Sc. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands, in 2013.
Since completing my study I have been working as a research scientist and consultant at TNO and have been involved in various projects in the field of (big) data analysis in the field of mobility, transport and logistics. Moreover as the GDPR coordinator I am able to establish the link between mobility and the subject of privacy (GDPR).
Within the last decade I have worked on several projects related to city dashboarding, digital twinning, automated driving, the digital road infrastructure and traffic safety.
The key theme throughout my career is that technology alone isn't the answer; it's about how it integrates into the traffic system and its impact on accessibility, sustainability, and safety."
