The Energy Innovation Centre specializes in the electrification and interconnection of power systems, providing the technical expertise and infrastructure required to move emerging technologies from laboratory simulations to successful market implementation. Our expertise in data analytics allows us to provide third-party technology validation and support sound business decisions for our partners.

Our focus includes modernizing electrical distribution and developing advanced control systems for peak management to ensure that utility delivery can remain both affordable and reliable. Past applied research involved a comprehensive study on the impact of electric vehicle (EV) adoption on local distribution networks. By analyzing grid requirements and identifying necessary infrastructure upgrades, we provided data-driven recommendations that will help utility providers and municipalities manage evolving energy demands.

Through the Campus Energy Living Lab, the EIC can provide a controlled yet authentic operational environment for validating these systems. This allows us to offer specialized services such as the testing of grid protection and automation technologies through the unique ability to island sections of the campus power system. By simulating real-world scenarios, we help our clients de-risk their investments and gain confidence in the performance of their clean energy solutions.
