Thyra Imaging – The Non-Invasive Neuroinflammation Imaging Platform

CEO / Co-Founder at Thyra Imaging

Vienna, Austria

About

Thyra Imaging aims to enable non-invasive early detection of Alzheimer’s disease.

Neuroinflammation plays an important role in Alzheimer’s disease, yet suitable tools to assess it early and non-invasively are lacking. This limits not only earlier detection of disease biology, but also the development and evaluation of better therapies. The retina provides a unique window into the central nervous system and brain health.

Thyra Imaging is developing the first non-invasive technology capable of visualizing the activation state of individual retinal microglia—immune cells involved in neuroinflammation—at cellular resolution. Our technology combines adaptive optics, originally developed for astronomy, with optical coherence tomography (OCT), an established imaging technology in ophthalmology.

Our clinical research prototype has already been successfully used in patients. Building on this validated technology, we are developing a compact commercial imaging platform together with AI-powered image-analysis software, ultimately enabling its use beyond highly specialized research environments.

We are raising €0.7M through a SAFE bridge round to achieve the next key development milestones and prepare our first commercial research-use-only device for market entry.

Roadmap

  1. Miniaturization and product development: Transform our laboratory prototype into a compact commercial form factor and develop AI-powered image-analysis software, targeted for completion in 2027.

  2. Ophthalmology: Launch the first research-use-only device for ophthalmology research centers.

  3. Neurology: Expand the research-use-only platform with AI-powered analysis for neurological research centers.

  4. Pharmaceutical development: Support clinical trials with a novel imaging biomarker for neuroinflammation.

The roadmap is designed to generate the technical and clinical evidence required to ultimately realize our vision of non-invasive early detection of Alzheimer’s disease.
