About

The Modern Batteries (MoBat) research group at the University of Turku focuses on the development of next-generation battery technologies that support the transition to sustainable energy systems. The group conducts interdisciplinary research on advanced battery materials, electrochemical energy storage, and particularly redox flow battery technologies, which offer scalable and safe solutions for large-scale renewable energy storage.

Through a combination of fundamental research, materials development, and system-level innovation, MoBat aims to improve battery performance, durability, and sustainability while reducing environmental impact. The group collaborates closely with industry partners, research institutions, and international networks to accelerate the commercialization of clean energy storage solutions.

By advancing technologies that enable reliable storage of renewable energy, the University of Turku contributes to decarbonization, energy system resilience, and the wider transition to a low-carbon economy.
