OWI Science for Fuels gGmbH is an independent and non-profit research institution. In cooperation with partners from industry and academia, OWI researches and develops concepts and technologies in the fields of energy-efficient use of liquid conventional and alternative fuels, as well as innovative efficiency technologies. Its research and development activities cover production processes, material properties, application and storage, concept development, as well as technology assessment and transfer. The aim is to deliver technically advanced, low-greenhouse-gas and low-emission solutions for the heat generation and mobility of tomorrow.

OWI acts as a research service provider and sees itself as an intermediary between basic research and practical application. Within the framework of technology transfer, OWI works on both publicly funded projects and industrial research contracts. Its clients include manufacturers of domestic heating systems, companies in the automotive supply industry, the mineral oil sector, and thermal process engineering.
