District Cleantech
About
In alignment with European and regional strategies, District Cleantech aims to create a cleantech ecosystem in Charleroi Métropole dedicated to four major cleantech themes:
● H2, CCU and Energy transition,
●Sustainable renovation and construction,
●Soil and water remediation (brownfield approach)
●Water Resiliency
Over the next decade, the ambition is to develop an ecosystem that will serve as an economic and innovation hub for Wallonia, Belgium, and Europe. In a campus-like setting, a 40 ha site, located in the city-center of Charleroi, Belgium, will be renovated to welcome industrial cleantech companies. The hub will bring together training providers, universities, research centers, startups, and businesses. This initiative will assist companies in Charleroi Métropole and the Walloon Region in addressing the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the climate transition.
Within this vision of collaboration and innovation, the actors will utilize shared infrastructures and equipment (the "Upscaling Labs"), fostering the emergence of new startups, collaborations, cleantech pilots, job creation, and the development of apprenticeship-based training programs in constantly evolving professional fields.
