Digit Soil is a Swiss AgTech startup and ETH Zurich spin-off dedicated to regenerating agricultural soils through precision biological diagnostics. The company developed the Soil Enzymatic Activity Reader (SEAR), also known as "BOB"—a portable, handheld device that provides rapid, on-site assessment of soil biological activity.
By measuring the activity of key extracellular enzymes, the system quantifies the biochemical processes responsible for nutrient release. This data, combined with deep-learning models and satellite Earth Observation, provides farmers with actionable insights into soil mineralization potential. These insights allow for precise, data-driven optimization of both organic and synthetic fertilizer timing and dosage, ultimately reducing waste, cutting costs, and minimizing environmental runoff.
