Watopi is a Danish cleantech company specializing in decentralized, point-source wastewater treatment for applications where conventional centralized systems fall short. The company originated as a spin-out from the Grundfos ecosystem and is built on more than a decade of operational experience from hospital wastewater treatment. Hospitals represent some of the most complex wastewater profiles, containing pharmaceuticals, resistant bacteria, and other micropollutants that traditional municipal treatment plants are not designed to remove effectively. Watopi’s technology has been in continuous operation for over ten years and has been designated Best Available Technology (BAT) by Danish authorities. Watopi develops and delivers modular, factory-produced treatment systems designed to treat wastewater directly at the source. This approach enables faster implementation, higher treatment performance, and lower total cost compared to traditional sewer-based solutions. The systems are scalable, standardized, and delivered as industrial products rather than bespoke construction projects. While proven in the hospital sector, Watopi’s solutions are increasingly relevant for a broader range of point sources, including public buildings, decentralized municipal infrastructure, and utilities facing stricter European discharge requirements. By combining hospital-grade treatment performance with decentralized thinking, Watopi helps clients meet current and future regulatory demands while reducing environmental impact and dependency on centralized infrastructure.

About me

On a personal note, I am a father of two daughters and have a long-standing passion for water in all its forms — from environmental solutions to coastal life. I care deeply about nature and protected cultural heritage, and I am particularly drawn to places where landscapes, history, and human activity are in balance. In my spare time, I enjoy good wine, great food, and reading — especially books that explore culture, society, and how we shape the world around us
