About
The Modern Batteries (MoBat) research group at the University of Turku focuses on the development of next-generation battery technologies that support the transition to sustainable and resilient energy systems. The group conducts interdisciplinary research on advanced battery materials, electrochemical processes, and particularly redox flow batteries, which are highly promising for large-scale renewable energy storage.
Through laboratory research, materials development, and system-level analysis, MoBat aims to improve battery efficiency, durability, and safety while reducing environmental impact and enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources.
The team collaborates with industry, startups, and research partners to develop innovative energy storage technologies for renewable integration, grid stability, and decarbonization. Possible collaboration areas include joint R&D projects, technology development, testing of new battery materials, and participation in European innovation programs.
The research group welcomes collaboration with companies and organizations interested in advanced energy storage, sustainable battery technologies, and clean energy innovation.
