About

Windcoop is a French citizen-led shipping cooperative developing wind-powered cargo vessels as a practical alternative to conventional maritime transport. Its mission is to accelerate the transition toward low-carbon shipping by combining innovative sail propulsion technologies with cooperative governance and transparent supply chain models.

The company’s core service is the operation of wind-propelled cargo ships designed to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and dependency on fossil fuels in maritime logistics. Through its cooperative model, Windcoop enables both cargo owners and citizens to participate directly in building sustainable shipping infrastructure.

Its first vessel, Miaraka, is currently under development, with technical oversight and ship management provided by Zéphyr & Borée. The project combines advanced naval engineering with social and solidarity economy principles to create commercially viable low-emission maritime transport.

Key features include:

  • wind-assisted cargo shipping for reduced fuel consumption
  • cooperative ownership and transparent governance
  • low-carbon maritime logistics solutions
  • resilient alternatives to conventional freight transport
  • support for sustainable international supply chains

Windcoop aims to demonstrate that ecological shipping can operate at commercial scale, contributing to cleaner global logistics and supporting the maritime sector’s climate transition.
