About

AZTI is an international scientific and technological centre dedicated to developing high-impact innovation projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organisation specialises in the marine environment, sustainable aquaculture, and food systems, supporting industry and public stakeholders in building more sustainable and resilient value chains.

Through applied research and technology development, AZTI delivers advanced solutions that improve environmental performance, product quality, and resource efficiency in fisheries, aquaculture, and food production. Its work spans areas such as sustainable aquaculture systems, fish nutrition, seafood product innovation, marine ecosystem monitoring, and circular bioeconomy approaches.

AZTI collaborates with companies, research institutions, and policymakers across Europe and globally to develop pilot projects, technology demonstrations, and innovation partnerships that accelerate the transition toward sustainable marine and food industries.

One example is the BIOGEARS project, which develops biobased aquaculture ropes that reduce gear footprint by around 20% compared to fossil-based alternatives, contributing to lower environmental impact in aquaculture operations.

AZTI is seeking collaboration with aquaculture companies, seafood producers, technology developers, and research partners interested in advancing sustainable marine solutions and innovative food technologies.
