Circular Façade Panels Made from Sawmill Bark

About

Re-Claim is a Danish material innovation company developing bio-based building materials from residual bark generated by sawmills. Today, more than 90% of bark produced in the timber industry is burned as low-value biomass. Re-Claim converts this overlooked resource into durable architectural panels that can be used as exterior façade cladding and building surfaces.

The company has developed a process that presses bark into structural panels using a bio-based binder derived from natural wood resin and grey water. This approach preserves the natural characteristics of bark—its closed-cell structure, UV resistance, durability, and distinctive natural color—while transforming it into a scalable construction material.

By using an existing industrial sidestream, Re-Claim supports circular material flows in the construction sector, helping reduce reliance on energy-intensive façade materials such as aluminum, brick, and composites. The solution extends the lifecycle of wood resources while offering architects a biogenic, aesthetically distinctive alternative for modern buildings.

Re-Claim collaborates with architects, developers, engineers, and sawmills to bring bark-based materials from early prototypes to real building applications. Through pilot projects, testing, and certification work, the company is preparing the material for scalable use in sustainable construction.

Re-Claim is seeking architectural partners, developers, construction companies, and investors interested in advancing circular and regenerative building materials.
