About
Plasma Enhanced Catalyst Oxidation (PECO) is an innovative process developed by IRIS that integrates non-thermal plasma with advanced catalytic materials to achieve highly efficient oxidation and reduction of pollutants. Unlike conventional oxidation systems, PECO generates a broad spectrum of reactive species (radicals, ions, and excited molecules) that work synergistically with catalysts to degrade even the most persistent organic and inorganic contaminants.
The process operates at ambient temperature and pressure, requiring no additional chemicals, which makes it a clean and energy-efficient alternative to traditional treatments. By combining plasma-driven activation with catalytic selectivity, PECO enables the complete breakdown of complex pollutants into harmless end products such as CO₂ and H₂O.
PECO has demonstrated strong potential in a variety of applications, including:
-
Air purification, with efficient removal of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), NOₓ, and odorous gases.
-
Water and wastewater treatment, where persistent organic pollutants, pharmaceutical residues, and micro-contaminants are effectively degraded.
-
Industrial emissions control, ensuring compliance with strict environmental regulations while reducing operational costs.
Its scalable and modular design allows PECO to be integrated into both small pilot systems and large industrial plants. The technology supports circular economy strategies by minimizing chemical consumption, reducing waste generation, and improving overall process sustainability.
As part of IRIS’s broader portfolio of plasma-based solutions, PECO represents a next-generation oxidation-reduction platform that bridges the gap between environmental protection and resource efficiency, enabling industries and municipalities to meet ambitious decarbonization and clean-tech targets.
