SMEs sought for ZIM-Innovation network on small satellite technologies

Project Manager at ZENIT GmbH (Zentrum für Innovation und Technik in Nordrhein-Westfalen)

Mülheim an der Ruhr, NRW, Germany

About

We are looking for companies (especially SMEs) based in Germany that are interested in joining a ZIM innovation network focusing on the industrial production and innovation in small satellite technologies. Currently, six SMEs and a network of research institutions are involved. Additional SMEs and interested companies along the value chain are being sought. The application for funding is to be submitted to the Federal Ministry of Economics by the end of this year.

Goals of the planned network:

·       Drive innovation across the entire small satellite value chain

·       Enable modular, standardized, and automated series production of components and subsystems

Key development areas currently being discussed:

·       Scalable satellite platforms: automation, industrial manufacturing (e.g. injection molding, die casting, additive manufacturing), modular design

·       Advanced materials: lightweight composites, protective coatings, multifunctional materials

·       Secure systems: radiation-resistant electronics, cyber protection, redundancy and self-healing concepts

Who is being sought:

Companies, R&D institutions, and technology providers active in:

·       Manufacturing & production technologies: precision engineering, robotics, automation, additive manufacturing, AI-based quality assurance, sustainable production

·       Materials & composites: high-performance, lightweight, or sustainable materials suitable for space applications

·       Space & satellite technology: developers or users of subsystems, components, or satellite applications (e.g. propulsion, antennas, power, communication, Earth observation)

·       Potential end users as associated partners of the network for the purpose of market orientation, validation, and ensuring acceptance of the targeted innovations.
