About
Boyd provides engineered materials that ensure efficient heat transfer, system protection, and long-term reliability in harsh aerospace, space, and defence environments. Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs) enhance conduction between components and cold plates; EMI/RFI shielding protects sensitive payloads from electromagnetic interference; and seals, gaskets, and vibration isolators maintain system integrity under vacuum, launch loads, and extreme temperatures. These solutions safeguard electronics, extend operational life, and guarantee mission success.
-
Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs) – Gap fillers, pads, and greases to ensure efficient heat transfer between components.mprove conduction between heat-generating components (e.g., processors, power amplifiers) and heat spreaders/cold plates.
Types: Gap fillers, pads, greases, phase-change materials, graphite sheets.
Advantages:
• Reduce contact resistance for efficient heat transfer.
• Conform to surface irregularities for consistent thermal coupling.
• Available in lightweight, space-rated, and high-reliability grades.Applications: Satellite payload electronics, avionics modules, radar T/R modules, laser diode arrays.
-
EMI/RFI Shielding Materials – Combined with thermal management to protect payload electronics from interference. Protect sensitive electronics from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI).
Forms: Conductive elastomers, coatings, foils, mesh composites.
Advantages:
• Provides both electrical shielding and environmental sealing.
• Lightweight, customizable to gaskets, housings, or enclosures.
• Critical in defence systems to prevent detection or interference.Applications: Satellite communication payloads, electronic warfare systems, avionics enclosures, secure communications gear.
-
Seals, Gaskets, and Vibration Isolators – To support long-duration missions with minimal degradation. Prevent leakage of fluids, gases, or contaminants, while ensuring environmental sealing under extreme pressure/temperature.
Materials: Silicone, fluorosilicone, fluorocarbon, perfluoroelastomers, conductive elastomers.
Advantages:
• Space-qualified for vacuum and radiation environments.
• Durable against wide thermal cycles, vibration, and chemical exposure.
• Can combine sealing with EMI shielding.Applications: Spacecraft hatches, satellite enclosures, cryogenic tanks, propulsion modules, avionics bays.
