MycoGain: A novel myco-enhanced functional protein ingredient
About
Niskus Biotech Ltd. have developed ‘MycoGain’ a novel myco-enhanced functional ingredient for alternative meat & dairy products. MycoGain is made from the fungal fermentation of brewers spent grain (BGS) a ubiquitous, homogenous side stream from the brewery industry. Our product contains elevated levels of protein & fibre, has improved digestibility and an array of bioactive & nutraceuticals e.g. beta-glucans, terpenes, antioxidants, lectins and vitamins. These compounds are known to improve gut, immune, brain, circulatory health as well as having targeted anti-bacterial and anti-viral activities.
MycoGain is a vegan friendly product containing all essential amino acids as well as the other health promoting compounds described. MycoGain is a sustainable, high grade, healthy source of functional protein which can be used as an ingredient in a wide range of consumer products. Niskus works with & leverages the power of fungi to convert low value BSG into high value myco-enhanced ingredients.
Niskus are using fermentation with myco-enhancement to increase the value of perishable low-cost food side streams (i.e. BSG) by producing stabile high value myco-products (MycoGain) with increased protein, fiber and bioactive content. The Niskus solid-state fermentation process is efficient, scalable (up to 700Tonnes), applicable to a broad range of substrates & has low land & water use with a low GHG output (CO2 can be capture). It is cost effective & rapid (7-day cycle) and produces a flexible product with wide application and minimal downstream processing steps.
Niskus can provide our food customers tailored functionality in myco-products (taste, texture, flavour, nutraceuticals) using our extensive food grade (non-GMO) fungal biobank resource. This broad possibility of options enables us to develop the bespoke product recipes for our customers food and beverage products.
