GEMAPI Predict: AI for Flood Prevention and Metropolitan Aquatic Environment Management

IA/Data Project Manager at MÉTROPOLE DU GRAND PARIS

Paris, France

About

Challenge Overview :

The Greater Paris Metropolis is seeking artificial intelligence solutions to strengthen its exclusive GEMAPI responsibility (Management of Aquatic Environments and Flood Prevention), including flood forecasting, monitoring of flood protection infrastructure, and the management of aquatic environments across a densely populated territory crossed by the Seine and Marne rivers.

Since 2018, the Greater Paris Metropolis has held exclusive responsibility for GEMAPI across 130 municipalities. Faced with increasing climate risks and exposure to flooding, the Metropolis seeks innovative AI technologies capable of improving operational efficiency in one or more of the following areas.

Areas of Interest

  1. Flood Forecasting

    • Reduce hydraulic model computation times to enable real-time flood warnings.
  2. Monitoring of Flood Protection Infrastructure

    • Automate anomaly detection on levees, floodwalls, and protective structures (movement, seepage, erosion).
  3. Watercourse Maintenance

    • Detect debris jams, waste deposits, and vegetation encroachment using drone, camera, or satellite imagery.
  4. Wetland Monitoring

    • Map and monitor aquatic ecosystems over time, particularly fragmented and under-documented wetlands.

What We Are Looking For :

Startups, research laboratories, or companies with operational AI solutions or technologies reaching maturity (TRL 4-8), applicable to one or more of the challenge areas and capable of conducting a pilot project on a limited metropolitan scope.

Collaboration Opportunities :

  • Proof of Concept (PoC) or pilot project on a selected site.

  • Co-development with GEMAPI teams and participating Territorial Public Establishments (EPTs).

  • Access to existing data sources (GIS, flood prevention plans, infrastructure records, etc.) through a structured partnership framework.

What We Offer

  • Support through the ApproprIAtion Métropolitaine program, including training, networking, and pilot implementation assistance.

  • Access to a real-world testing environment covering 130 municipalities along the Seine and Marne rivers.

  • Potential inclusion in the future Metropolitan AI Solutions Catalogue following a successful pilot.
