Rome Autonomous Driving Ecosystem
President at Consulta Roma Smart City Lab
Rome, Italy
About
Rome is one of Europe's largest and most complex urban environments, characterized by high traffic density, historic infrastructure, millions of residents, and a constant flow of tourists. These unique conditions create significant challenges for mobility, road safety, congestion management, accessibility, and environmental sustainability. At the same time, they offer an exceptional opportunity to develop and validate next-generation autonomous driving technologies in a real-world urban context.
We are looking for innovative ideas, technologies, research initiatives, pilot projects, and scalable solutions that can contribute to building a comprehensive autonomous driving ecosystem for the city of Rome. Proposals may address any aspect of the autonomous mobility value chain, including artificial intelligence, perception systems, vehicle connectivity, digital infrastructure, smart traffic management, simulation and testing environments, cybersecurity, data platforms, regulatory frameworks, human-machine interaction, and integration with public transportation.
We encourage multidisciplinary approaches involving universities, startups, research centers, technology providers, public institutions, and industry partners. Solutions should demonstrate the potential to improve transportation efficiency, reduce congestion, enhance road safety, lower environmental impact, increase accessibility, and support the transition toward a smarter, more connected, and sustainable urban mobility ecosystem.
The goal of this challenge is to identify forward-looking solutions that can help transform Rome into a leading European reference for autonomous mobility, fostering innovation, collaboration, and the deployment of safe, reliable, and citizen-centered autonomous transportation services.
