AI-powered Part Extraction from Engineering Drawings (Drawing to Manufacturing)
Strategic Innovation Partner at MAFESA

About
1.1.-Context of the challenge
Mafesa's structural steel services division receives reinforced concrete projects from engineering firms, architects and contractors in a variety of digital formats.
Before production can begin, each project must be reviewed and interpreted to identify every reinforcing steel element and extract the manufacturing-ready part information required for fabrication.
Today, this process is largely manual, requiring significant engineering expertise and technical office time. As project volumes continue to grow, it has become a major bottleneck in the preparation of manufacturing orders, creating an opportunity for AI-powered automation to improve speed, accuracy and scalability.
1.2.-Key Question
How can we automate the extraction of manufacturing-ready part information from engineering drawings and technical documentation provided by engineering firms and contractors?
1.3.-Expected Outcome
-
Automatically identify all reinforcing steel elements within the project documentation.
-
Generate bar bending schedules (BBS) and rebar schedules.
-
Calculate bar lengths, quantities and specifications.
-
Generate manufacturing-ready part information for fabrication.
-
Integrate seamlessly with Mafesa's existing ERP, production and management systems.
The process should require no manual intervention, except for the final validation by a technical specialist.
