Universal Accessibility and Corporate Signage Service at TMB facilities

Innovation Ecosystem at TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona)

Barcelona, Spain

About

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (hereinafter TMB) is the common name for the companies Ferrocarril Metropolità de Barcelona, SA, and Transports de Barcelona, SA, which manage the Metro and Bus network on behalf of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. It also includes the companies Projectes i Serveis de Mobilitat, S.A., which manages the Montjuïc cable car; Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, SL, which manages fare products through the Hola Barcelona e-commerce platform and other transport services; and the TMB Foundation, which safeguards TMB's historical heritage and promotes the values of public transport through social and cultural activities.

The activity of the Universal Accessibility and Corporate Signage Service is focused on the following areas:

· Consolidating innovation in the search for solutions to barriers that still need to be eliminated. · Maintaining participation and social dialogue as a tool for co-creation. · Supporting other professionals in the company to incorporate design criteria for all in their respective projects.

Challenges in improving the evacuation of people with reduced mobility:

1.1. Innovation in assisted evacuation in emergency situations Technological solutions for the safe evacuation of people with reduced mobility or sensory impairments: smart evacuation chairs, illuminated accessible routes, vibrating and audible warning systems. We would like to emphasize this challenge for its importance and what it represents because it addresses critical emergency scenarios such as accidents, power outages, or system failures, where it is essential to ensure the rapid and safe evacuation of passengers with reduced mobility.

1.2. Immersive training for staff and users in inclusive evacuation Use of augmented reality or simulators to train teams and raise user awareness of inclusive evacuations.

Challenges in improving cognitive and communicative accessibility:

2.1. Multisensory and adaptive information interfaces How can we ensure that information at stations, stops and on vehicles is understandable, accessible and usable for people with sensory, cognitive or intellectual disabilities?

2.2. Personalised and predictive real-time navigation systems Proposal for AI- and geolocation-based solutions for cognitive support during the journey.

2.3. Remote and interactive assistance for people with reduced mobility Platforms that integrate immediate assistance calls from mobile phones, stations or stops, connected to support staff.

Challenges for improving physical accessibility:

3.1. Adaptive and inclusive spaces in stations and on platforms Innovative solutions for flexible reconfiguration of spaces: ergonomic furniture, smart guide strips, unified light and sound signage.

3.2. Total connectivity between accessible modes of transport Create a barrier-free intermodal experience between the bus and metro networks, ensuring continuity in information and signage.

For all challenges, proposed solutions should be as simple as possible to implement and maintain. The less involvement needed with train manufacturers, the more feasible and valuable the solution will be.
