About
GENESIS – AI-supported Digital & Physical Information System Factory
GENESIS is an international R&D project being prepared for SMART EUREKA Call 10. It revisits the 1980s vision of the Information System Factory (ISF) using technologies that have now reached practical maturity: generative AI, knowledge-based systems, modern software toolchains, powerful microcomputers and cloud/edge computing.
The objective is to develop a reusable AI-supported Digital and Physical Information System Factory that transforms requirements into validated and operational information systems.
Functional requirements are formulated in natural language or pseudocode, while non-functional and deployment requirements are represented by structured parameter/configuration objects. A Requirements Intelligence Agent (RIA) interprets and structures the requirements, and a Generative Programming Agent (GPA) produces software artefacts using local and domain knowledge. Independent Validation & Governance Gates (VGG) check the AI results and connect generative AI with deterministic IDE, compiler, build and test processes.
GENESIS supports two complementary programming approaches:
Aubit-4GL – representing declarative/high-level programming
Python-3GL – representing procedural/general-purpose programming
A controlled MVC benchmark will compare both approaches in terms of development effort, AI interactions, human correction, reliability, computing resources, cost and energy efficiency.
A particular GENESIS feature is the transition from software generation to operational systems. Generated and validated applications can be configured and deployed either as:
-
digital systems in cloud/virtual environments, or
-
physical systems on SBC-based MatCubes and networked edge/IoT environments.
This connects AI-supported software engineering with citizen development, low-code concepts, IoT, edge computing, smart factories and Industry 5.0.
Four deliberately reduced pilot domains are planned: Business Administration/ERP, Cultural Heritage, Healthcare and Microelectronics/IoT. Existing Proofs of Concept in Business Administration and Cultural Heritage have already demonstrated AI generation of Aubit-4GL database/model, user-interface/view and program/control artefacts followed by expert validation and correction.
The current consortium includes SMEs from Austria and Türkiye, covering Aubit-4GL/C++, AI and agents, Python/C++, Business Administration, Cultural Heritage, and Healthcare, system integration and validation.
We are looking for complementary project partners and/or pilot organisations, particularly with expertise or reusable assets in Healthcare, Microelectronics/IoT and edge systems, Python-based engineering, AI validation/governance, industrial or public-sector use cases, and citizen-development/user validation.
Partners contributing existing software, data models, domain knowledge, APIs, documentation, test environments or realistic pilot cases are especially welcome, since GENESIS follows a reuse-before-redevelopment strategy.
The principal project result will be the GENESIS platform, while the pilots serve to demonstrate its transferability across domains.
