About
The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) was founded in 1983. It is one of the largest research centres in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research institution worldwide.
FORTH conducts specialized scientific research in strategic high-added value sectors, focusing on interdisciplinary research and development (R&D) activities in areas of major scientific, societal and economic interest, such as: Lasers and Photonics, Microelectronics, Advanced Materials / Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Precision Medicine, Systems Biology, Robotics, Telecommunications, Applied and Computational Mathematics, Chemical Engineering Sciences, Energy, Environment, Social Sciences & Humanities, Astrophysics and Astronomy.
FORTH is placed among the leading research centres in Greece and abroad based on various external evaluations and reports:
- 1st among the Research Centres of Greece, in all evaluations carried out by the General Secretariat for Research & Innovation (GSRI) using external, internationally renowned scientists as experts.
- 2nd among the 10 best research and educational organizations in Greece in Nature INDEX.
- 1st in the Ranking Web of Greek Research Centers, Webometrics 2017, 2018, 2019.
- 15th among all European Research Foundations and 35th among all Research Foundations and Universities, for its participation in research projects of the 7th Framework Programme approved for funding during the period 2007-2012 (H2020 EC Dashboard).
