Sensor Fusion & Dead Reckoning for Rodent-Borne SAR in GPS-Denied Environments

Assistant Professor at Yildiz Technical University

istanbul, Türkiye

About

We are developing advanced tracking solutions for search-and-rescue (SAR) "HeroRats" equipped with sensor-laden backpacks (SoC, IMU, Camera). Our technology enables the precise mapping of a rat’s path through complex debris fields where GPS is unavailable.

Dead Reckoning Algorithms: Using Magnetometer/Gyroscope/Accelerometer data to trace movement in 3D.

  • Visual Odometry: Utilizing the backpack camera for environmental mapping.

  • Human Localization: Pinpointing the exact coordinates of survivors detected by the rats to guide heavy rescue teams.

Stage

  • Execution - Development stage (preparation)
