About

CTAEX offers strong expertise in the development and validation of circular bio-based materials from agri-food biomass, with particular experience in industrial hemp fibres, agricultural by-products and other renewable feedstocks. The Centre provides comprehensive material and fibre characterisation, pilot-scale processing and validation, and the development of natural binders, bio-based additives and functional ingredients to support sustainable material innovation. Its capabilities extend to upcycling agricultural residues into high-value materials, enabling the creation of circular value chains with reduced environmental impact.

With pilot plants, analytical laboratories and experimental farms, CTAEX can validate technologies from laboratory to pilot scale under real operating conditions. The Centre combines expertise in biomaterials, circular bioeconomy, biotechnology and sustainable processing, facilitating the development of innovative, scalable and market-oriented solutions.

Beyond its technological capabilities, CTAEX acts as a Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO), connecting research with industry through dissemination, stakeholder engagement and technology transfer. Its extensive network of cooperatives, industries, technology providers and research organisations makes CTAEX an ideal partner for interregional innovation consortia focused on textile waste valorisation, hemp-based materials, circular products and the validation of new sustainable value chains.
