Recovery and treatment of micro and nanoplastics from waters
About
The Membrane Technology Groups (MEMTECH) of IMDEA Water institute has the experience on implementing membrane processes as sampling and preconcentration step of microplastics and nanoplastics from regenerated waters. Often the sampling methods used do not capture small size microplastics and nanoplastics, Consequently they cannot be monitored and analyzed. MEMTECH can implement membrane processes capable of preconcentrating large amount of water volumes containing micro and nanoplastics enhancing the identification and quantification of these pollutants from water samples. In addition, MEMTECH has a wide experience on conducting research focused on the removal of microplastics and nanoplastic implementing hybrid membrane systems such as membrane bioreactors and ultrafiltration membranes. Our previous work shows that MBRs can eliminate upt to 99.9 % od small microplastics (<250 ym) and nanoplastics (120 nm) https://doi.org/10.1016/j.seppur.2026.137940
