CIDE is a leading European research center dedicated to understanding ecological processes in arid environments, climate change, and ecosystem degradation, particularly in the Mediterranean climates. It combines multidisciplinary expertise in ecology, and global change to study environmental processes and their impacts. With strong links to applied research, its work informs land management, conservation, and restoration. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, CIDE also plays an active role in international scientific and policy initiatives related to environmental protection and sustainable development.
My research focuses on the study of mutualisms structuring plant communities, particularly in arid environments. It investigates both ecological and evolutionary processes shaping interaction networks among plants, as well as between plants and other organisms such as seed dispersers and mutualistic microorganisms. My work integrates theoretical (e.g. network analyses) and mechanistic approaches (e.g. field experiments). Currently, my research projects address an overlooked ecological process in natural plant communities: nutrient transfer between plants and its potential role in shaping microevolutionary process and plant community structure.
