Dr. Habtamu Abera serves as the CEO of National Research and Development and the Secretary of the Research Grant Council at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Innovation and Technology. He is a senior researcher in animal genetics and molecular breeding at the Bio and Emerging Technology Institute. Dr. Abera coordinates national research and development efforts across Ethiopia, contributing to the implementation of science, technology, and innovation policies.
Dr. Abera holds a BSc in Animal Science and an MSc in Animal Genetics and Breeding from Haramaya University, Ethiopia, and a PhD in Animal Genetics and Breeding from the Graduate School of the China Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has authored or co-authored over 22 journal articles and more than 30 conference papers, totaling 42 publications. He also serves as a peer reviewer for various journals, including Journal of Animal Biotechnology, PLOS One, and Journal of Integrative Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Science.
