Assistant professor, PI of LAZARUS (FIS2, 1.2 M€). Expert in enzyme engineering and enzyme temperature adaptation mechanisms.

My organisation

Founded in 1998, the University of Milano-Bicocca has grown rapidly to become a central figure in the higher education and research landscape. The University's modernity is reflected in its innovative approach to teaching and its commitment to fostering an inclusive and future-oriented academic environment. Located in the northern part of the city, in an area specifically designed as an educational and research hub, the University benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and a strategic location. The Bicocca district has been designed to integrate educational institutions, research centers and industry, creating an ecosystem that fosters collaboration and innovation. The Biomedical Hub of the Department of Medicine and Surgery is located in Monza to be close to the IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori Foundation, the centre for healthcare and clinical research focused on personal health, where students carry out their professional training activities.

About me

I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences, University of Milano-Bicocca, actively looking to host and supervise motivated MSCA Postdoctoral Fellows.

I recently awarded the highly competitive FIS2 Starting Grant from the Italian Ministry of University and Research as Principal Investigator. My lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of enzyme temperature adaptation, combining ancestral sequence reconstruction with deep-learning enzyme design to engineer synthetic enzymes with tunable thermal properties.

We welcome project proposals that align with our core expertise, which includes:

  • Enzyme Adaptation: Investigating cold-adaptation mechanisms in cold-active enzymes through combined structural, functional, and computational analyses.

  • Industrial Biocatalysis: Improving the stability and solvent tolerance of industrially relevant enzymes, focusing on their application in non-conventional media.

  • Sustainable Bioprocessing: Developing strategies for recombinant protein and enzyme production in Escherichia coli using agro-food waste streams as feedstock.

As a fellow in my group, you will benefit from a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment bridging computational design, structural biology, and applied biotechnology.
