I received a Bachelor degree in Dentistry in 2006 and a Master’s degree in Periodontology in 2010, both from Jordan University of Science & Technology.
In 2017, I received a PhD in Oral Sciences from the University of Milan, Italy. During my last year of her PhD studies, I was a visiting research scholar at the Department of Periodontics & Oral Medicine, University of Michigan, USA.
In 2018, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Odontology, University of Gothenburg, studying the relationship between epigenetics and peri-implant diseases.
In 2019, I was the Osteology Foundation research scholar at the Department of Biomaterials, Institute of Clinical Sciences, University of Gothenburg, studying cell behavior to different biomaterials. From 2020 until 2023, I was employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the same department.
At present, I hold the position of Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Head of the Department of Oral Biochemistry at the Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg.
I have authored more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters.
In 2017, I was the recipient of the prestigious (Henry M. Goldman) prize for best basic research, awarded by the Italian Society of Peridontology and Implantology (SIdP).
My research interests include using peri-implantitis and periodontitis as translational models to study epigenetics, genetics, exosome-mediated cellular responses, and biomaterials for bone regeneration around implants.
