My work is focussed on understanding more about articular cartilage so we can find meaningful solutions for people who have joint problems such as osteoarthritis. My group works on all aspects of cartilage biology, characterising articular cartilage stem cells - i was involved in their discovery, tissue engineering, and understanding how this tissue's collagen structure changes into the adult form postnatally - we solved this 100 year mystery in Jan 2025 (https://doi.org/10.3389/fcell.2024.1511908)..) I love what I do and I support all the junior members of my group to achieve their goals and then make their next steps, be that in science and technology, or other pursuits. Our group is ambitious and I can see us producing translational outcomes from our research in the very near future.
