A world-class university with a wide range of disciplines, award-winning research and a global focus, we work to understand, explain and improve our world.
My research laboratory focuses on uncovering the mechanisms of islet pathophysiology during the development of type 2 diabetes. In particular, we investigate how ageing, membrane-associated molecular signaling, and external biophysical factors—such as magnetic fields—affect islet cell function. By integrating molecular biology, advanced imaging, and physiological assays, our goal is to reveal novel regulatory mechanisms that can inform therapeutic strategies and improve diabetes management. In the long term, our goal is to develop translationally relevant models of islet dysfunction, enabling the discovery of interventions that preserve or restore islet cell functions and improve outcomes for patients with diabetes.
