About me

Dr. Marie Larsson is a Professor at Linköping University's Medical Faculty. As the director of the Medical Inflammation and Infection Center and head of Molecular Medicine and Virology division, Dr. Larsson research lay in the field of immunovirology, exploring how viruses impact immune cells and tissues.

Her research focus on the immunomodulatory effects of HIV-1 on human dendritic cells and T cells, alongside investigating the initial impacts of RNA viruses like coronaviruses and RSV on airways and immune cells and effects viruses such as Dengue virus exerts on immune system. With a PhD from Linköping University, Dr. Larsson's expertise in human dendritic cells was honed during her postdoctoral tenure and assistant Professor position at The Rockefeller University and as an assistant professor at New York University, Langone MC.

Throughout her career, Dr. Larsson has mentored numerous PhD students and postdocs, while also contributing her expertise to grant reviews for organizations such as the Swedish Research Council, Marie Curie grants, and the Dutch Cancer Society. She has also served as reviewer for academic positions, such as Professor, at different Swedish Universities/Research institutes. Recognized for her contributions, she has received accolades including the LiU Leadership Prize and the Eric.K. Fernströms Award.

With over 143 peer-reviewed publications, reviews, and books under her belt, Dr. Larsson's has over 11,000 citations and an H-index of 53 and i10-index of 110 according to Google Scholar August 2025.
