About me

Dr Kapal Dev is an Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Munster Technological University, Ireland. He received his PhD from Politecnico di Milano in 2019 under the Erasmus Mundus Fellowship. He is the recipient of several distinguished awards, including the IEEE ComSoc EMEA Outstanding Young Researcher Award 2022, the Tom Brazil Excellence in Research Award 2023 from CONNECT, and the Irish Research Council Research Ally Prize 2022; in 2024, he was selected as a member of the Global Young Academy and received the Best Workshop Paper Award at IEEE WCNC. As Principal Investigator, he has secured over €1.5 million in competitive research funding through Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ projects. He is the Founding Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Special Interest Group on Industrial Communication Networks and holds multiple leadership roles within the IEEE Consumer Technology Society, including Chapter Chair for the UK and Ireland, Chair of the Consumer and Cognitive Networks Technical Committee, and Editor-in-Chief of the CCN Technical Committee Newsletter. He serves in editorial capacities across several leading IEEE (TCOM, TNSM, TGCN, COMST, IoTJ, TCE, CEM, OJCOM, OJVT, Potentials), and has held workshop leadership roles at major conferences such as ACM MobiCom, IEEE Globecom, ICC, WCNC, ICDCS, CCNC, and PIMRC. His research focuses on Wireless AI, Secure AI, Agentic AI, Quantum AI, and Physical AI; he has supervised over 32 MSc and PhD students, authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, serves as an external evaluator for ERC, SNS‑6G, and MSCA programmes, and is a Senior Member of IEEE and professional member of ACM.
