About
NunaBio is a UK engineering biology company developing next-generation technologies for the design, manufacture and deployment of complex synthetic DNA. As a Newcastle University spinout, the company combines expertise in enzymology, DNA chemistry, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, automation and quality-by-design to create scalable solutions for biotechnology, healthcare, agriculture and industrial biotechnology applications.
At the core of NunaBio’s platform is a proprietary cell-free enzymatic DNA manufacturing technology that enables the rapid production of high-quality DNA constructs that are often difficult or impossible to generate using conventional cell-based approaches. The platform supports a wide range of applications, including DNA and RNA therapeutics, vaccines, advanced diagnostics, biosensors, synthetic biology and emerging bioeconomy technologies.
NunaBio has particular strengths in DNA synthesis, polymerase engineering, sequence optimisation, sequencing-enabled quality control, automation and distributed biomanufacturing. The company has successfully delivered multiple Innovate UK-funded projects spanning DNA manufacturing hardware, biosensors and enzyme development, and is actively developing AI-enabled workflows that integrate design, manufacturing and quality assurance into streamlined engineering biology pipelines.
The company’s vision is to help establish the infrastructure required for the next generation of engineering biology by enabling faster, more flexible and more sustainable access to synthetic DNA. Through its modular technology platform and collaborative approach, NunaBio works with industrial partners, academic groups, healthcare organisations and public-sector stakeholders to accelerate innovation and translate engineering biology advances into real-world products and services.
