Hosting Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026

Adil Khan

Professor, Director at University of Hull

Hull, United Kingdom

About

Host Institution: Centre of Excellence for Data Science, AI and Modelling (DAIM) and the Centre for Responsible AI at the University of Hull

Principle Investigator: Prof. Adil Khan

Research Areas of Interest: My research centres on responsible and trustworthy AI, developing explainable, adaptive and robust deep-learning methods that remain reliable under uncertainty, distribution shift and real‑world constraints. I welcome MSCA PF projects on: (1) robust and explainable multimodal learning (vision, language and sensor data), including domain generalisation/adaptation, continual learning, and red‑teaming against adversarial or prompt‑based attacks; (2) trustworthy generative AI for decision support, covering calibration, hallucination detection, evaluation, monitoring and governance, with human‑in‑the‑loop design; (3) interpretable and safe learning for high‑stakes deployment, including uncertainty quantification, fairness/bias auditing, privacy‑preserving learning, and methods that translate into deployable, auditable systems. Applications may span health, manufacturing, security and public services, with an emphasis on rigorous validation, reproducibility, and measurable scientific and societal impact.

What we offer: DAIM (which I lead) and the University of Hull Centre for Responsible AI provide an inclusive, interdisciplinary home for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellows working on trustworthy AI. Fellows will be embedded in an active research culture (reading groups, seminars, writing sprints and peer‑feedback sessions) and supported to form collaborations across the University and with external stakeholders. I will offer close, structured supervision and mentoring: weekly 1:1 meetings; a written project plan with milestones, risk management; and periodic advisory input from relevant colleagues/partners to broaden scientific perspective. We will co‑develop a Career Development Plan aligned with MSCA expectations, covering advanced technical training; a publication and conference strategy; research data management; ethics and Responsible Innovation; and professional skills (leadership, project management, communication and teaching). During proposal development, I will provide iterative feedback and internal peer review to strengthen the MSCA excellence, impact and implementation sections. Where beneficial, I will help broker secondments and co‑created case studies with suitable academic, industry and public partners, supporting inter‑sectoral experience, networking and career progression.

Candidate's Expected Influence: A Fellow could advance trustworthy AI by developing robust, explainable multimodal and generative models that remain reliable under distribution shift and adversarial prompting. Their work could produce benchmarks, open tools, and prototypes for high stakes decision support, informing governance and accelerating translation with academic, industry and health partners at Hull and beyond.

How to Express Interest:

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact (a.m.khan@hull.ac.uk)

A CV and a cover letter outlining their research interests, relevant experience, and initial ideas for a potential MSCA PF project (max. 1 page).

EU Call deadline: 9th September 2026

Proposal deadline for contacting the team: 20 April 2026 (Late enquiries may be considered from exceptional candidates with particularly strong or relevant profiles).

Please note that the University of Hull actively encourages expressions of interest for the MSCA European Postdoctoral Fellowships only.
