MSCA PF Offer: Department of History - Supervisor dr. Somer

The Department of History has a longstanding tradition in the study of the Middle Ages. Its dynamic academic programs feature comparative and interdisciplinary graduate and postgraduate education, spanning historical and cultural developments from Antiquity to the twenty-first century. The department conducts numerous research initiatives and attracts an expanding community of international students and scholars, involved in innovative scholarship.

Supervisor:

PhDr. Tomáš Somer, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University Olomouc. His research focuses on the social, economic, and ecclesiastical history of Central Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries, with particular attention to aristocratic elites, power structures, and the Mongol invasion of Europe. He works extensively with Latin narrative and documentary sources. The supervisor provides academic mentoring and support during proposal preparation and throughout the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Preferred research topics:

• Social and economic history of Central Europe in the High Middle Ages

• The Mongol invasion and its impact on medieval Europe

• Political and societal elites in Central Europe (13th–14th centuries)

• Church institutions and religious life in medieval Central Europe

Candidate requirements:

• Eligibility & Mobility: PhD obtained within the last 8 years (except for career breaks); compliance with MSCA mobility rules.

• Skills & Methodology: Proven experience with medieval primary sources and academic publishing. Experience with digital humanities methods and comparative or interdisciplinary research is an advantage.

• Project Proposal: Ability to develop a highquality research plan aligned with the supervisor’s expertise.
