About

Our laboratory is at the forefront of deciphering the intricate dialogue between the microbiome and the immune system, alongside its profound influence on neurodegenerative processes. We precisely pinpoint the molecular mechanisms—receptors, proteins, and signaling pathways—through which microorganisms regulate our immune response.

A cutting-edge area of our investigation focuses on bacterial extracellular vesicles (EVs). We leverage a specialized facility for their precise isolation and comprehensive characterization, delving into their probiotic properties and their complex interactions with the human body, particularly under conditions of undernutrition.

By conducting structural analyses of bacterial antigens, we reveal their immunomodulatory properties and critical impact on prevalent human diseases, including allergies, IBD, autoimmune, and neurodegenerative disorders.

We are also pioneering advanced mucosal carriers for next-generation immunotherapies and vaccines. Our research extends to uncovering the neuroprotective and immunomodulatory potential of natural compounds like the yolkina peptide complex and ovocystatin, as well as investigating lipid antigens as crucial mediators in multiple sclerosis. This comprehensive approach drives our mission to translate fundamental insights into novel therapeutic strategies.
