EquiCardia: Enabling Equal-Access Blood Pressure Monitoring

COO at Novosound LTD

Glasgow, United Kingdom

About

Novosound is a Scotland-based deep-tech company that has developed a proprietary thin-film piezoelectric ultrasound sensor, an enabling hardware technology for the next generation of wearable and connected health. The sensor measures arterial distension directly, allowing continuous, cuff-less blood pressure monitoring without the indirect optical signals (PPG) that limit accuracy in today's wearables.

Our reference implementation, senseBP, is a working clinical device that already demonstrates the sensor's accuracy (±5 mmHg, surpassing FDA requirements). The core technology sits at TRL5, with FDA 510(k) and EU MDR clearance underway in parallel, and is supported by a Clinical Advisory Board including Prof. George Stergiou, Prof. Chris Clark, Prof. Christian Delles and Prof. Colin Berry. This gives the consortium a proven technical starting point.

EquiCardia would take this enabling sensor and embed it into an integrated, patient-facing monitoring system built and deployed by a system-integrator partner, extending clinical-grade blood pressure monitoring into the homes of mobility-limited, rural and care-home populations. Combined with caregiver- and clinician-facing tools for remote monitoring and shared care coordination, and designed around GDPR and the European Health Data Space, the project addresses UNITE Challenge 1 by strengthening patient autonomy and equitable access to care for populations currently excluded by fragmented, digitally-gated care pathways.

We are looking for two partners to complete the consortium:

  • A system integrator (a wearable device maker, digital health platform provider, or healthcare service operator) to embed the sensor into a deployable product or service, ideally bringing or working alongside a genuine care-delivery site to fulfil UNITE's end-user role.

  • A research entity, based in Central Macedonia, Romania, Lombardy, Extremadura or Aragón, with expertise in AI/ML for physiological data, digital health interoperability, accessible UX design, or biomedical signal processing.
